Core dictionary

Definitions and inflected forms come from Wiktionary contributors, extracted with Wiktextract and distributed by Kaikki. Every entry links to its source page and revision history. We select 20,000 headwords, merge senses and forms, and rank them using the FrequencyWords German OpenSubtitles 2018 list by Hermit Dave and contributors.

Reading library

Our Grimm stories reproduce the 1857 German text from Wikisource. The original works by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm are in the public domain. Each story names its source. We remove page-number markers and HTML, and normalize whitespace; historical spelling is retained. Modern starter texts and their English references are AI-written drafts awaiting human review.
